Established: Authorized on June 20, 1966. Location: 25 miles southwest of Williston, North Dakota, and 24 miles north of Sidney, Montana. Facilities: Rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Activities: Hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, self-guided tour, interpretive programs. Special Features: The principal fur-trading post of the American Fur Company in the Upper Missouri River region from 1828 to 1867, Fort Union served the Assiniboine, Crow, Cree, Ojibway, and Blackfeet tribes.
