Fort Verde State Historic Park Location: 3 miles east of I-17, at 125 E Holloman St in Camp Verde. Facilities: 3 historic house museums, visitor center, picnic areas, restrooms (é). Activities: Living history programs, self-guided tours. Special Features: Park is considered the best preserved example of an Indian Wars period fort in Arizona. Fort Verde was the primary base for General George Crook's US Army scouts and soldiers, and visitors today can experience 3 historic house museum -- Commanding Officer's Quarters, Bachelors' Quarters, and Doctor's Quarters on Officer's row -- all furnished in the 1880s period. Interpretive exhibits with period artifacts on military life, Indian Scouts, and Indian Wars history are located in the former Administration uilding.
