Foshan

Foshan (fô-shän) or Namhoi (näm`hoi`), city (1994 est. pop. 368,500), E Guangdong prov., SE China, in the Pearl River delta. An industrial city c.10 mi (15 km) from Guangzhou, it is known for its silk and porcelain manufactures. The Cantonese name for Foshan is Fatshan.

Foshan 

(also Fatshan), a city in southern China, in Kwangtung Province. Population, approximately 325,000 (1975). Foshan, an industrial city adjacent to Canton, has enterprises that produce silk fabrics, cement, sugar, wood products, porcelain, glass, and foodstuffs. The city also produces handicrafts.

Tang Zaixing, from Nanhai district of Foshan, Guangdong province, moved to Foshan from Hong Kong when new China was founded in 1949, and his dream of learning English faded away, reports the China Daily.
