Foster, John

Foster, John (1648–81) printer; born in Dorchester, Mass. He graduated from Harvard University (1667), established the first printing office in Boston (1675–81), and is known for the earliest woodblock engraving in America, a portrait of Reverend Richard Mather (1670).
