Fox, Dixon (Ryan) (1887–1945) college president, historian; born in Potsdam, N.Y. A Ph.D. from Columbia University, he taught American social history there (1913–34) and wrote The Decline of Aristocracy in the Politics of New York (1919). He was president of Union College, Schenectady (1934–45). As president of the New York State Historical Society (1929–45), he sponsored important scholarly publications.
