Franconian Forest
(in German, Frankenwald), a massif in the Federal Republic of Germany, between the Fichtelgebirge and the Thuringian Forest; its northern spurs are in the German Democratic Republic. Elevations reach 795 m at Döbraberg. The massif is composed of gneisses, granites, and quartzites and is dissected by steep valleys. Forests of spruce, fir, and pine grow on the slopes.
