Akhmedova, Frangiz Iusif Kyzy
Born Sept. 23, 1928, in Baku. Soviet Azerbaijani opera singer (soprano); People’s Artist of the USSR (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1963. In 1955, Akhmedova graduated from the Azerbaijan Conservatory (the class of M. T. Kolotova). From 1946 to 1951 she was a soloist with the Azerbaijan Radio chorus, and since 1951 she has been a soloist with the M. F. Akhundov Theater of Opera and Ballet (Baku). Her roles include Sevil’ (from Amirov’s opera of the same name), Nigiar (from Gadzhibekov’s Ker-ogly), Aida (from Verdi’s opera of the same name), Tosca (from Puccini’s opera of the same name), and Tatiana (from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin). Akhmedova was a deputy of the Fourth Congress of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. She was awarded the Order of Lenin. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
