Frankl, Paul T. (1887–1958) furniture designer; born in Vienna, Austria. Already an established designer in his native land when he emigrated to New York City in 1914, he became an important promoter of modern design through writing and lecturing. His book New Dimensions (1928) was important for disseminating the art deco style. He also continued to design furniture; memorable among his own work is his 1920s "skyscraper style" furniture—extremely elegant in its use of exotic woods with lacquers or gold and silver leaf.
