Krüger, Franz
Born Sept. 3, 1797, in Grossbadegast, in present-day Halle District, in the German Democratic Republic; died Jan. 21, 1857, in Berlin. German painter. From 1812 to 1814, Kriiger attended the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1825 he became a professor at the academy and an artist at the Prussian court. He worked at the Russian court several times (1836, 1845, 1847, 1850–51). Along with his officially commissioned pictures and portraits, Krüger painted genre scenes and intimate portraits. His genre paintings include hunting scenes in the Biedermeier style. In his large paintings of parades, such as The Parade on Opernplatz (1824–29, National Gallery, Berlin), Krüger provided an animated and accurate depiction of Berlin society. REFERENCEWeidmann, W.
