Frederick Louis, 1707–51, prince of Wales, eldest son of George II of England. By his wife, Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, he had several children, the eldest of whom became George III. He quarreled with his parents over his financial allowance and in 1737 was expelled from court. Thereafter he maintained his own household, chiefly at Leicester House, which became a center of political opposition to George II and to the ministries of Robert Walpole and Henry Pelham.
