Freeman, Morgan (1937– ) actor; born in Memphis, Tenn. The son of a barber and a school teacher, raised in Chicago and Mississippi, he served in the air force and attended Los Angeles City College. He made his Broadway debut in 1967 in an all-black production of Hello, Dolly. His movie credits include Street Smart, for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and Glory. He is perhaps best known for his role as Hoke Colburn, the chauffeur in the movie Driving Miss Daisy (1989). How to thank TFD for its existence?
