Freeman, Thomas (?–1821) engineer, astronomer; born in Ireland. He came to the U.S.A. in 1784. He was one of the surveyors of Washington, D.C. (1794–95) and explored the Arkansas and Red Rivers (1806). As surveyor of the public lands of the American south (1811–21), he opposed land speculation.
