(electronics)
A harmonic conversion transducer in which the frequency of the output signal is an integral submultiple of the input frequency. Also known as counting-down circuit.

Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq:VTSS) has announced an industry record of 152 GHz for static frequency divider circuits.
Several rapid single flux quantum (RSFQ) digital circuits were fabricated and successfully tested, among them, a 325 GHz (speed) digital frequency divider, a 4-bit binary counter, and various input/output elements.
The team, composed of BAE Systems Information and Electronic Warfare Systems (IEWS), Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, recently demonstrated a circuit with a clock frequency of 152 GHz - an industry record for static frequency divider circuits.
