Frey, Viola (1933– ) ceramist; born in Lodi, Calif. With an M.F.A. from Tulane University, she joined the faculty of the California College of Arts and Crafts (1965). Exploring avenues of fantasy, kitsch, and stereotype, her large assemblages of cast ceramic objects and massive figures brought the recognition of a 1984 solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum.
