Fridliand, Semen Osipovich 

Born Aug. 15 (28), 1905, in Kiev; died Feb. 14, 1964, in Moscow. Soviet photographer.

Fridliand became a news photographer in 1925; throughout his career he was a regular contributor to the journal Ogonek. Fridliand strove for clarity in organizing his material. He attached great importance to planning the sequence of each picture story and to establishing a clear connection between his photographs and the accompanying commentary.
