Fridtjof Nansen 

a mountain massif in the Queen Maud Range, Antarctica, near the southern extremity of the Ross Ice Shelf. Elevation, 4,180 m. The massif was discovered in 1911 by R. Amundsen’s Norwegian antarctic expedition and is named in honor of F. Nansen.

Professor John Simpson of Bangor university's School of Ocean Sciences is to receive the 2008 Fridtjof Nansen Medal, awarded by the European Geosciences Union at the European Geophysical Union Assembly in Vienna where he will also deliver the Nansen Lecture.
The world needs to rediscover the spirit and example of Fridtjof Nansen.
