Pravdinsk (präv`dyĭnsk), formerly Friedland (frēt`länt), town, NW European Russia, formerly in East Prussia. In 1807 the city was the scene of a battle in which Napoleon I defeated the Russians, thus precipitating the fall of Königsberg and the Treaty of Tilsit.
Pravdinsk (until 1946, Friedland), a city, the administrative center of Pravdinsk Raion, Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR. It is located on the Lava River, a tributary of the Pregolia, 22 km south of the Gvardeisk railroad station on the Kaliningrad-Kaunas line and 53 km southeast of Kaliningrad. Pravdinsk has a cheese plant, an asphalt-concrete plant, and a footwear factory. Pravdinsk an urban-type settlement in Balakhna Raion, Gorky Oblast, RSFSR. It is situated on the right bank of the Volga and has a railroad station on the Gorky-Zavolzh’e branch line. Population, 28,000 (1973). The Balakhna Paper and Pulp Combine is located in Pravdinsk.
