Friese-Greene, William
Born Sept. 7, 1855, in Bristol; died May 5, 1921, in London. English inventor; specialist in still and motion-picture photography. In 1889, Friese-Greene and the English engineer M. Evans obtained a patent for a camera capable of serial photography, which was the first to use a perforated celluloid film with a light-sensitive layer; the camera contained many design features of the modern motion-picture camera. In 1889, Friese-Greene made several short films, which he exhibited in 1890 before the Royal Photographic Society. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
