Lipmann, Fritz Albert, 1899–1986, American biochemist, b. Germany, grad. Univ. of Berlin (M.D., 1922; Ph.D., 1927). He emigrated to the United States in 1939 and became a citizen in 1944. In 1941 he became research chemist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and in 1949 professor of biochemistry at Harvard medical school. For his discovery of coenzyme biotin, is a member of the B complex; it was first isolated in 1935 from dried egg yolk, and its structure was established in 1942.
