frontolysis [‚frən′täl·ə·səs]
(meteorology) The dissipation of a front or frontal zone. In general, a decrease in the horizontal gradient of an air mass property, principally density, and the dissipation of the accompanying features of the wind field. Frontolysis the dissipation or disappearance of a front; the opposite of frontogenesis. Frontolysis occurs through the action of specific horizontal and vertical movements of air, usually in the process of cyclonic activity. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
