Fruton, Joseph S.

Fruton, Joseph S. (Stewart) (1912–  ) biochemist; born in Czestochowa, Poland. He came to the U.S.A. in 1923, and became an assistant in biochemistry at Columbia University (1933–34). He moved to Rockefeller University (1934–45), then joined Yale (1945–82). He made major advances in studies of proteolytic enzymes for over 30 years; in the late 1960s, he devoted his time to writing and lecturing on the history of science.
