Fuel Filter

(engineering)
A device, as in an internal combustion engine, that removes particles from the fuel.
Fuel Filter 

a filter designed to remove various contaminants from liquid fuel. Fuel filters are installed in the fuel feed systems of internal-combustion engines, gasoline and fuel pumps at filling stations, and motor vehicles. Coarse filters that use a mesh, slit ribbon, or slit plate are capable of removing particles with dimensions greater than 20 micrometers. Replaceable elements for fine filters made of such porous materials as felt or paper retain particles with dimensions between 5 and 20 micrometers. Aviation fuel filters (separators) are used to remove water and contaminating particles as small as 5 micrometers.
