tilt (esp in medieval Europe) a. a jousting contest b. a thrust with a lance or pole delivered during a tournament tilt [tilt] (aerospace engineering) The inclination of an aircraft, winged missile, or the like from the horizontal, measured by reference to the lateral axis or to the longitudinal axis. (electromagnetism) Angle which an antenna forms with the horizontal. In radar, the angle between the axis of radiation in the vertical plane and a reference axis which is normally the horizontal. (meteorology) The inclination to the vertical of a significant feature of the circulation (or pressure) pattern or of the field of temperature or moisture; for example, troughs in the westerlies usually display a westward tilt with altitude in the lower and middle troposphere.
