Fulla, L’udovít 

Born Feb. 27, 1902, in Ružomberok. Slovak painter and graphic artist. People’s Artist of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (1963).

Fulla studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague from 1922 to 1927. His works, such as Slovak Girl (1949), are distinguished by a stylized use of imagery that recalls the epic and by a decorative use of color. Fulla is also known as a painter of monumental works, notably the frescoes for the church in Klizske Hradiste (1932–34), and as a book illustrator.
