Fuller, Melville W. (Weston) (1833–1910) Supreme Court chief justice; born in Augusta, Maine. He was active in Illinois politics but unknown nationally when President Cleveland named him chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1888–1910). He was known as an able and moderate jurist.
