He began his career in the 1970s, performing in local reggae and funk music bands before forming his own band, Alumni, in 1981.
It will feature a Main Stage, run by local music promoters Funk Network UK, which will feature some of the region's best pop, rock, indie and funk music, the Hooked stage with performances from Newcastle's best electronic and producers, DJs, dance and hip-hop acts, the Tyne stage featuring the hottest up-and-coming local musicians and the Electrolux AV tent boasting the area's best DJ's and VJ's.
Inspired by blues musician John Lee Hooker's classic Boogie Chillen, Diddley used his violin skills to craft a guitar sound that laid the basis for the funk music of the 1960s.
