Furman, Bess (1894–1969) journalist; born in Danbury, Nebr. As a Washington correspondent for the Associated Press in the 1930s, she covered Eleanor Roosevelt and became one of the best-known woman journalists of the day. She later reported from Washington for the New York Times (1943–61).
