Furth, Harold P. (Paul) (1930– ) physicist; born in Vienna, Austria. He came to the U.S.A. in 1941. He performed research in nuclear radiation at the University of California: Berkeley (1955–67) before moving to Princeton (1967). A world leader in the fields of plasma physics and controlled thermonuclear fusion, he became widely known for his refutation of the claim that fusion can be achieved at room temperature in a glass of water.
