Gai 

a city (until 1970 a settlement), center of Gai Raion, Orenburg Oblast, RSFSR. Situated in the Guberlin Mountains, 40 km north of Orsk. Connected to the Orenburg-Orsk line by a railroad branch. Population, 28,000 (1970). Gai arose in 1959 in connection with the exploitation of chalcopyrite deposits. The city has a mining and ore-dressing enterprise, a plant for reinforced-concrete products, a dairy, and a poultry farm. The construction of a plant for the production of radiator bands was begun in 1970. Branches of the Orsk Industrial Technicum, the Orsk Medical School, and the Novotroitsk Construction Technicum are located in Gai.
