Gabon Estuary

Gabon Estuary

Inlet of the Gulf of Guinea, western Gabon. Fed by the Como and Mbeï rivers, it is 40 mi (64 km) long and 9 mi (14 km) wide at its mouth. It was explored in the 1470s by Portuguese navigators and was long considered the finest harbour of the West African coast. Libreville is its main port.

Owendo lies on the Gabon Estuary, is the main port for the capital city, Libreville, and largely serves barge traffic, while Port Gentil is located at the core of the Gabonese oil sector.
Shortly afterward, assigned to the Donghila Mission on the Gabon estuary, the young Father Trilles consecrated his pastoral action in the Fang areas around Libreville and its hinterlands (near Mondah Bayto the north and the Como and Remboue Rivers to the southeast).
