Galina Gorokhova

Gorokhova, Galina Evgen’evna 

Born Aug. 31, 1938, in Moscow. Soviet athlete (fencing with foils). Honored Master of Sports (1960); teacher. Member of the CPSU since 1964.

Gorokhova has been USSR champion six times (between 1960 and 1970) as well as world champion (1965 and 1970) in individual fencing. She has also been USSR champion 13 times (between 1958 and 1970), world champion ten times (between 1958 and 1971), and an Olympic games winner (1960 in Rome; 1968 in Mexico) in team contests. Gorokhova has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
