Gambrinus (gămbrī`nəs), mythical Flemish king, to whom the invention of beer is attributed. He is represented in modern folk art as straddling a keg.

Two other labels--Les Sans Culottes, depicting Delacroix's painting Liberty Leading the People and Rose de Gambrinus, featuring a painting of the king of Flanders sitting with a bare-breasted woman--were denied licensing.
At one time, it had five breweries and now a statue of King Gambrinus celebrating the city's brewing heritage stands outside Riverside Park.
Gambrinus is sitting on a keg of beer, patting his ample tummy, a beer stein in his hand and a crown on his head.
