Gansevoort, Peter (găns`v rt), 1749–1812, soldier in the American Revolution, b. Albany, N.Y. He served in the Quebec campaign and in 1777 was in command of Fort Schuyler (former Fort Stanwix). In the Saratoga campaign he gallantly defended that post against British siege under Gen. Barry St. Leger St. Leger, Barry, 1737–89, British officer in the American Revolution .
