Garde Marine
the title established by Peter I in 1716 for students of senior companies of the Naval Academy conferred at the time when they were sent to the fleet for practical training. After the practical training a garde marine received the rank of an officer. The statute on the garde marines changed many times. Beginning in 1906, because of the experience gained in the Russo-Japanese War, students of the senior classes of the Naval Cadet School were released into the navy for a one-year training period with the rank of ship garde marines. The title was abolished in 1917 after the October Revolution. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
