Garmisch-Partenkirchen (gär`mĭsh-pär'tənkĭr`khən), town (1994 pop. 27,000), Bavaria, S Germany, in the Bavarian Alps, at the foot of the Zugspitze. It is an international winter resort and a regional commercial center. The 1936 Olympic winter games were held there. The picturesque town has two well-decorated 18th-century churches.
