(geochemistry)
A naturally occurring solid composed of crystallized water (ice) molecules, forming a rigid lattice of cages (a clathrate) with most of the cages containing a molecule of natural gas, mainly methane. Also known as clathrate hydrate, gas clathrate.

National Gas Hydrate Programme: In tune with the road map for NGHP, India has acquired core samples with the help of the drill ship "JOIDES Resolution".
They built a reactor and filled it with sand, water, and methane, to simulate the formation of gas hydrates (at low temperatures and high pressure) and production of the gas.
