Gascoyne
a river in Western Australia. Length, 780 km; basin area, 79,000 sq km. The Gascoyne arises in and flows through the plateau of Western Australia, emptying into Shark Bay on the Indian Ocean. Its water level fluctuates sharply according to the season. Its bed dries out in the dry season, but from May to July stormy floods occur.
