Gashinskii, Arkadii Evgen’evich 

Born July 29, 1920, in Melitopol’. Soviet Ukrainian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1971).

Gashinskii graduated from the A. V. Lunacharskii State Institute of Theatrical Arts in Moscow in 1945. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, he was a member of the front-line actors’ brigade of the First Ukrainian Front. From 1945 to 1948 he was an actor at the Kiev Ukrainian Theater of Drama. In 1948 he became a member of the I. Franko Ukrainian Theater of Drama in Kiev. His roles include Khoma and Aprash in Staritskii’s Oh, Gritsu, Do Not Go to Evening Parties and Gypsy Aza, Andronati in Vasil’ko’s On Sunday Morning I Gathered the Love Potion (based on the novella by Kobylianskaia), Ol’shanskii and Iaroslav in Kocherga’s Svichka’s Wedding and laroslav the Wise, Groza in Korneichuk’s A Page From a Diary, Mastakov in Gorky’s Old Man, Ibragim-ogly in Ugrium River (after Shishkov), The Dervish in Karim’s Night of the Lunar Eclipse, Creon in Sophocles’ Antigone, Gloucester in Shakespeare’s King Lear, Uriel Acosta in Gutzkow’s Uriel Acosta, and Don Jose de Santarem in Don César de Bazan by Dennery and Dumanoir. Gashinskii teaches at the studio of the I. Franko Theater.
