an upland region of western France. It extends more than 100 km from northwest to southeast along the left bank of the lower course of the Loire River. The upland reaches an altitude of 285 m and is made up of granite, quartzite, and shale, forming a broad arch that has greatly deteriorated from erosion. Oak forests predominate.
