Gatovskii, Lev Markovich 

Born July 13 (26), 1903, in Minsk. Soviet economist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960). Joined the CPSU in 1927. Graduate of the G. V. Plekhanov Institute of the National Economy (1924).

After 1924, Gatovskii taught in higher educational institutions and worked in the People’s Commissariat of Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection, the State Planning Commission, the Economics Institute of the Communist Academy, and the Center for the Administration of National Economic Accounting. Since 1939 he has been at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and he became its director in 1965. His principal works are in the field of the political economy of socialism.
