Gdov

 

a city, center of Gdov Raion, Pskov Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the Gdovka River, 2 km from the river’s mouth at Lake Chudskoe (Peipus).

Gdov is the terminal station on a 100-km branch of the Leningrad-Tallinn railway line. It is the site of a fish-processing factory, a vegetable cannery, and a dairy plant. Gdov was founded as a fortress in 1431 and has been a city since 1780.
