Geiger, Roy S. (Stanley) (1885–1947) marine officer; born in Middleburg, Fla. The restless son of a school superintendent, he abandoned the law to enlist in 1907, rose through the ranks and trained as an aviator. In 1945, on Okinawa, he commanded the U.S. 10th Army, composed of marine and army units—the first marine to command such a large unit. |
