Gennadii Aleksandrovich Svechnikov

Svechnikov, Gennadii Aleksandrovich 

Born Apr. 4, 1918, in the village of Nagorka, in what is now Kirov Oblast; died Jan. 26, 1974, in Novosibirsk. Soviet philosopher. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU from 1943.

Svechnikov graduated from the department of physics and mathematics of the University of Gorky in 1939 and subsequently taught. From 1956 to 1970 he was a senior research worker at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1966 he became head of the subdepart-ment of philosophy at the Moscow Physicotechnical Institute, and in 1970 he became head of the department of philosophy at the Institute of History, Philology, and Philosophy of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His chief works dealt with dialectical materialism and philosophical problems of the natural sciences.
