Gennadii Kalinin

    0.01 sec.
Kalinin, Gennadii Pavlovich

Born Nov. 10 (23), 1916, in Baku. Soviet hydrologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970), professor (1954). Member of the CPSU since 1952.

Kalinin graduated from the Kharkov Hydrometeorological Institute in 1937. Between 1942 and 1961 he worked at the Central Forecasts Institute of the Central Hydrometeorological Services Administration of the USSR. In 1961 he went to work at the subdepartment of geography at Moscow State University, where he became head of the subdepartment of inland hydrology in 1963. The theory of the formation of river drainage developed by Kalinin has served as the basis for a number of methods of predicting and calculating this drainage; he generalized data on fluctuations of river drainage and refined methods for its calculation (genetic and probabilistic). He clarified the general rules of water exchange on the global level and elucidated the processes of formation of the world’s resources of fresh water.
