Genrikh Ivanitskii

Ivanitskii, Genrikh Romanovich 

Born Nov. 8, 1936, in Moscow. Soviet biophysicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1970.

Ivanitskii graduated from the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Aviation Institute in 1960. In 1959 he began working at the Institute of Biophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, becoming the institute’s director in 1977. Ivanitskii’s main efforts have been directed toward the development of biophysical methods of research using computer technology and coherent optics and applying them to cytology. He has also been concerned with the machine study of the structure of brain cells, with the analysis of blood cells, and with the machine construction of the karyotype. A scanning optical microscope was perfected under Ivanitskii’s direction. In 1970, Ivanitskii organized a center for the machine analysis of cell structures.

Ivanitskii has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
