Geographe Bay
a bay of the Indian Ocean, at the south-western coast of Australia. It extends inland for 65 km and has depths ranging to 27 m. There are offshore sandy shoals and reefs. The Vasse River empties into the bay. Tides are diurnal, with an elevation of 1 m. The port of Bunbury is located in the east, near the bay entrance, and the city and port of Busselton is located in the south. Géographe Bay was discovered in 1801 by a French expedition under the command of Captain N. Baudin aboard the ships Le Géo-graphe and Le Naturaliste. The bay was named in honor of the ship.
