Geology and Geophysics, Institute of (IGiG)

a scientific research institute of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, organized in Novosibirsk in 1957.

It was the first complex geological and geophysical scientific research institute in the USSR, conducting research on paleontology, stratigraphy, lithology, geomorphology, tectonics, petrography, mineral products, geochemistry, and geophysics. The institute coordinates scientific work of all the geological branch institutions of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The results of its work are published in Trudy (Works, since 1960) and in the journal Geologiia i geofizika (Geology and Geophysics, since 1960).
