Bond, George Phillips
Born May 20, 1825, in Dorchester, Massachusetts; died Feb. 17, 1865, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. American astronomer; director of the Harvard Observatory in Cambridge (beginning in 1859). In 1848, Bond and his father, W. K. Bond, discovered Hyperion, the eighth satellite of Saturn. Bond investigated Donati’s comet, the Orion nebula, the Pleiades, and binary stars.
