Mdivani, Georgh Davidovich
Born Sept. 13 (26), 1905, in the village of Bagdadi, now the settlement of Maiakovskii. Soviet Georgian playwright and screenwriter. Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1961). He writes in Georgian and Russian. Member of the CPSU since 1944. From 1924 to 1926, Mdivani studied at the department of law of the University of Tbilisi. He has lived in Moscow since 1936. Mdivani is the author of plays that present sharp conflicts and are imbued with publicistic enthusiasm. Among his plays are Alcazar, which was staged in 1936 and deals with the revolutionary struggle in Spain, Moscow Sky (1943), New Times (1952), Teresa’s Birthday (1961), which is about revolutionary Cuba, They Kidnapped the Consul (1963), Your Uncle Misha (1966), and Big Mama (1971). Among the films that have been produced using Mdivani’s scenarios are Private Aleksandr Matrosov (1948), Soldier Ivan Brovkin (1955), and Ivan Brovkin on the Virgin Lands (1958).
