Georgiev, Petr

Born Nov. 21, 1891, in Sliven. Activist in the Bulgarian labor movement, publicist, historian. Joined the Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP) in 1910. Born into a worker’s family

From 1918 to 1923, Georgiev was the editor of the central organ of the BCP (Narrow Socialists), the newspaper Rabotnicheski vestnik. From 1923 to 1928 he was a member of the central committee of the BCP (Narrow Socialists), the last two years of this period serving as political Secretary of the Executive Bureau of its Central Committee. From 1928 to 1935 he was in fascist prisons and from 1941 to 1942, in a concentration camp. From 1945 to 1950 he was assistant editor and then editor in chief of the newspaper Rabotnichesko delo. In 1954 he became a member of the Central Committee of the BCP. From 1951 to 1961 he was a professor at Sofia University and from 1956 to 1962, director of the Institute of the History of the BCP (this institute is under the Central Committee of the BCP). He is the author of histories of the Bulgarian and international labor movement. In 1964 he was named a Hero of Socialist Labor of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. He has been awarded the Order of Georgi Dimitrov.
